Housing Counseling

Homeownership has become the American Dream. Many families have achieved the goal while others are wondering whether they ever will. Still other families are struggling to maintain homeownership due to job loss or other financial set-back. CCCS of Mobile believes that anyone willing to take the necessary steps to obtain homeownership deserves an opportunity. Our goal is to assist families and individuals in obtaining and maintaining homeownership through counseling and education.

The following are housing counseling services currently offered:

  • Pre-purchase Counseling
  • Post-purchase Counseling
  • Rental Assistance
  • Rent or Mortgage Delinquency Counseling
  • Foreclosure Prevention Counseling
  • Reverse Mortgage Counseling

Housing Counseling sessions generally last about 1.5 hours. These one-on-one sessions may be conducted in-person, by phone/mail or via the Internet utilizing e-mail. The preferred method of counseling is in-person and only those who are unable to physically come to one of our office locations may choose another option. These services are free.

Homebuyer Education Workshops

The purpose of these workshops is to provide education and information to potential home buyers, usually low-to-moderate income families, minorities and first-time home buyers, so that they are able to make informed decisions regarding homeownership. If homeownership is desired, the workshop provides a step-by-step format to help them achieve their goal and to avoid making costly mistakes. These services are free.

The workshops are taught on Saturday from 8:45 - 3:00 and on Monday and Tuesday evenings from 6:00 - 9:00. The curriculum includes the following topics:

  • Money Management/Budgeting
  • Credit Reports
  • Shopping for a Home
  • Home Inspections
  • Obtaining a Mortgage
  • Mortgage Loan Closings
  • Insurance
  • Fair Housing/Predatory Lending Issue

At the end of the workshop, participants are provided a "Certificate of Completion," which is required for eligibility for certain mortgage loans. Based on evaluations by participants, this is the first step anyone should take before purchasing a home!

Don't wait any longer - learn whether homeownership is right for you! For a list of current opportunities, click on Workshops at the top of this page or contact us at 251-602-0011 or send us an e-mail at counselor@cccsmobile.org.
